What’s with “no charge AWD”? Is this just a Canadian thing? I don’t understand how they just add “AWD to my vehicle” for no charge. I get that they are having a sale on all AWD vehicles during the slower winter months, but do you have to assume I am a complete idiot with the way it is worded. Do people respond to this type of foolery. Loosing faith in humanity.

The base car is FWD, but AWD is a $0 option on the order sheet.

Lincoln once did (still does?) the same thing with hybrid power trains (smaller engines on the hybrids though).

Why make the fwd car then? If they are the same price.

Some people would rather take the fuel savings and smaller turning radius believe it or not some people like FWD

It says Cash Purchase only, so maybe the dealership gets something from not having to go through financing it?

I guess it’s just some dealer speak stuff. This is how burocrats think about cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Would you like some free awd?

Kinja'd!!!

I guess I just wish there was more honest information and not bureaucracy and sales targets.

(I think I have watched Brazil too many times)

Isn’t it a promotion? As in during this event, upgrade to the AWD model for no cost.

I guess my point is that AWD and FWD models are in fact completely different vehicles that share very fiew parts. It’s not like you are upgrading, so much as you are buying a completely different vehicle. It just seems a little oversimplified.

How are they completely different cars... the AWD version is the exact same FWD car with added differentials and driveshaft. These kinds of cars even have their chassis and rear suspension designed to accomodate AWD in their FWD models, that’s why you see FWD CR-Vs with a big empty hole in the middle of their rear subframe.

They’re not completely different vehicles. Seriously, do you actually think this? There’s literally hundreds of vehicles out there that are FWD/AWD or RWD/AWD on the options sheet.

This is just a promotional offer that is stating instead of charging you an extra...however much it costs to add AWD to the options list, it’s free.

What’s so difficult to understand?

My guess: AWD is normally a +X$ option. Production plan estimated Y% of folks would elect for the option. Some number

Maybe I’m being cynical, but AWD is usually only available on certain trim levels. For the promotion they might just add a check box (for zero dollars) to a more expensive trim that might not even be offered in FWD.

The transaxles are different the suspension is different the wheel offset is different the hubs and spindles are different the carrier assemblies are different sometimes the engines are dissimilar enough that there isn’t a direct interchange. The PCM/bcm is different. It’s a little more complicated than you think.

No, you’re overcomplicating things. The Sorento has a FWD and AWD model. It still the Sorento. Just like the BMW 328i has a RWD and AWD offering, but they are still both the 328i.

This is the same for literally hundreds of models of cars and trucks.

One example from the e46 325xi. The rear trailing arm, which you would think has nothing to do with AWD because this thing is already RWD. It is not the same as the standard 325. It only goes on the x-drive cars and the diesel and the 330.

It. Doesn’t. Matter.

It was still sold as a 325, still the same model. You’re arguing semantics to the point of denying reality. Car manufacturers do not label it a different model of car simply because the chassis and powertrain is designed to drive either 2 wheels or 4.

The sooner you realize this, the sooner you’ll get over it.
